Subject: PiRho Fest - March 13 2010 Hello, it's time for Pi-Rho Fest again! (We schedule PiRho Fest the Saturday on or before Pi Day. Pi Day is 3/14, so PiRho Fest is always the 2nd Saturday in March.) So plan to go out to Granger for rockets and food during the day, fireworks and a bonfire in the evening, and optionally camping that night. Thanks to all the rain we've had this winter, there's almost no chance of a burn ban this year! No matter what the weather is like that day, we'll still get together and have fun. If it's too windy or rainy we may have to cut back on rockets, fireworks, or scale back the bonfire. If we can't do the fireworks we'll schedule a makeup date - but we'll still have a party and do whatever events we can. So, hope for a nice sunny day with a very slight breeze! IMPORTANT: Please RSVP by email to PiRhoFest@PiRhoFest.com or contact Rudy directly. If you will attend, tell us names for everyone that's coming, so we can make name tags. Even if you can't attend I'd like to know that too so we can plan accordingly. But... feel free to attend even if you didn't RSVP or changed your mind after telling me you weren't coming. Here's The Plan: - Rudy will arrive Friday to get a head start on setup. He'll start setting things up Friday and might camp out Friday night. Contact Rudy if you want to camp out or help. - Everyone is invited to arrive anytime after 9am Saturday. We usually finish setting up by noon, and the first rocket usually launches around 10am. - Most people arrive just after lunch, so everyone is on their own for lunch. - Fly Rockets (Launch pads open 9am - 6pm) EVERYONE is encouraged, though not required, to build and bring a rocket. Rocket kits are inexpensive and easy to build. You can even buy read-to-fly rockets if you have no shame at all. You still have plenty of time. If you want any help or suggestions on where and what to get, give Joe, Rudy, or Bob a call and we'll give you loads of free advice. We'll have lots of extra rocket engines and launching supplies. Rudy buys these in bulk for way less than the local hobby stores charge, and everyone is welcome to use as much as they need. There will be a donation jar if you wish to contribute to the engine fund, but this is not necessary. Unless you need unusual engine sizes, please plan to use the engines we bring, that's why we provide them. - We'll have some kind of "moon walk" inflated playhouse for the kids to bounce around in from lunchtime till dinner. - For dinner, we'll have a pot-luck. We're providing BBQ pulled pork sandwiches and hotdogs for the kids. We're asking everyone to volunteer and bring the side dishes, desserts, and beverages. Laura will coordinate this so that we don't end up with all desserts and no sides (I still don't know why this would be a problem). We'll have a big campfire and we'll find interesting things to burn, like our christmas trees and leftover peanut oil. All are welcome to join us, just ask if you want to know more. You can hang around the bonfire for a while or spend the whole night. What to bring: - Your rockets (if you have some) - Your lawnchairs or folding chairs - Camping stuff (if you plan to camp.) - Your christmas tree (if you saved it for the bonfire) - We could use a couple more pop-up tents - Desired beverages - Food for the pot-luck - Your charming personality - Weather appropriate clothing, shoes, sunscreen - be prepared for Mud, Rain, Hot, Cold, etc. If anyone wants to volunteer to coordinate any of the activities or help with setup, teardown, and cleanup let us know as soon as possible.
